Labor and Working Families
Congressman Lynch believes that all employees have the right to a safe workplace and a decent wage and to be protected from unfair labor practices. Shortly after being elected to the United States House of Representatives, Congressman Lynch founded and continues to co-chair the Congressional Labor and Working Families Caucus. Congressman Lynch and his colleagues work together on issues important to America’s hardworking men and women. He supports the premise that our government has a fundamental obligation to ensure that all Americans enjoy a decent standard of living and can provide for themselves and their families.
Protecting the rights of American workers is an ongoing battle. There are continued efforts by the current Republican Majority in the House of Representatives to prohibit Project Labor Agreements, which guarantee a prevailing wage, on construction projects that receive federal funds, to roll back established wage protections, including the Davis-Bacon Act, and to dismantle the National Labor Relations Act, which has been protecting workers rights for eighty years. Through the efforts of Congressman Lynch and his colleagues, Democrats and Republicans, in most cases these attacks on workers have been defeated. These efforts will continue as the 114th Congress moves forward. Congressman Lynch came to the United States Congress to stand up for working families and will continue to fight attempts to weaken hard-won workplace and wage protections.
Beyond protecting workers rights, Congressman Lynch continues to support policies that promote wage fairness and create jobs. In the 114th Congress, he is a cosponsor of bills which would ultimately raise the minimum wage to $12 per hour and would ensure that women earn equal pay for equal work. It is essential that the jobs are there for our workforce. That is why Congressman Lynch supports a long term transportation funding bill and targeted investment in certain sectors to help create jobs, expand economic opportunities for Americans, and rebuild America’s middle class.
Strong worker protections and fair labor practices created America’s middle class which in turn became the workforce that made America great. Congressman Lynch will continue to support policies that protect our workforce and will provide opportunity and stability for all Americans.
