Congressman Lynch has always been an active partner in the effort to protect our nation’s air, water, and environment. Now more than ever, it is crucial for Congress to take drastic measures to protect the environment and ensure its success for future generations to come.

Climate Change

As the Representative for the 8th Congressional District of Massachusetts, Congressman Lynch recognizes the threat of climate change to the seaside communities he represents. From Boston to Scituate, many of the Congressman’s constituents see firsthand the effects that coincide with rising sea levels caused by continued ocean and atmospheric warming. Congressman Lynch works closely with local, state, and federal officials to address these threats and to safeguard the district he is proud to represent.

As Chairman of the Subcommittee on National Security in the 116th and 117th Congress, Congressman Lynch underscored that climate change must also be a top national security priority. With this in mind, Congressman Lynch introduced the Climate Change National Security Strategy Act to ensure that the Federal Government appropriately considers climate change in the development of national security strategies and policies. Congressman Lynch has also cosponsored important climate change legislation, including the Environmental Justice For All Act and Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act.

Energy

Congressman Lynch believes America needs to have a long-term plan for reducing dependence on foreign oil, pursuing alternatives to fossil fuels, and improving efficiency across the entire energy spectrum. During his tenure in the House, Congressman Lynch has supported this “all of the above” energy policy.

In addition, Congressman Lynch has supported legislation to improve vehicle fuel efficiency, incorporate alternative fuels, and increase our renewable fuel use; steps that will reduce our reliance on foreign oil and lessen the impact of automobiles on the environment. In the past, he has secured funding for the purchase of hybrid fuel vehicles for public transit systems and municipal solar projects in the 8th Congressional District. Congressman Lynch is the original sponsor of the Green Buses for Every Community Act which was passed through H.R. 2, authorizing funding for national infrastructure projections. This bill requires at least 10% of funding for low emissions buses to be distributed to low-income communities. By taking a balanced approach to improving all aspects of our energy policy, Congressman Lynch believes we can put America on the track to a sustainable, secure energy future.
