As a Member of Congress, I have the honor each year to nominate a select group of young men and women from the 8th Congressional District to four of the five U.S. Service Academies.

The academies rank among the top institutions in the country and teach the leadership, discipline and communication skills necessary to become a successful officer in our nation's military. The academies include: the United States Military,  Naval,  Air Force,  Merchant Marine, and Coast Guard Academies.

Note: Applicants to the United States Coast Guard Academy do not apply for congressional nominations. Applicants apply directly to the academy. 

Eligibility for Nomination:

  • Age: Must be at least 17 years old, but not yet 23 years old on July 1st of the year of admission.
  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Residence: Must reside in the 8th Congressional District of Massachusetts.
  • Marital Status: Must not be married, pregnant, nor have legal obligation to support a dependent.
  • Skill/Fitness: Must meet the medical, physical, and academic requirements of the Academies. 

Nomination Process:

  • Applicants must contact the Academy they are interested in attending and begin the appointment process.
  • Applicants must apply for a nomination with all or one of the following: their Member of Congress, one or both of their U.S. Senators, and the Vice President of the United States. Applicants should confirm their Congressional District here.
  • Prospective applicants should contact my Boston office anytime after April 1st their junior year.
  • The deadline for completed applications for my office is November 1st of an applicant's senior year.
