Washington D.C. – Tomorrow, Thursday, May 20, 2021, at 9:00 a.m., U.S. Representative Stephen F. Lynch, the Chairman of the Subcommittee on National Security, will hold a hearing to examine President Biden’s decision to withdraw all remaining U.S. military forces from Afghanistan by September 11, 2021, and its implications for U.S. national security and the stability of the region.  

President Biden’s decision is a historic step toward bringing a responsible end to the U.S. war in Afghanistan.  However, the withdrawal of U.S. military forces is not without risks to U.S. national security, the long-term viability of the Afghan state, and the stability of the region.  

The hearing will also consider the future of U.S. reconstruction assistance to Afghanistan and the importance of continued oversight to prevent the waste or mismanagement of U.S. taxpayer resources.
