Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Stephen F. Lynch, a senior member on the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, sent a letter to Chairman James Comer demanding an investigation and public hearing on White House “Border Czar” Tom Homan’s reported misconduct and the circumstances surrounding the decision by the Department of Justice to terminate a federal investigation of Mr. Homan for potential bribery and additional federal crimes.
“Accepting shopping bags full of cash in return for public contracts is unacceptable. We must fully investigate the facts surrounding the potentially criminal misconduct reportedly committed by Tom Homan, the White House “Border Czar,” as well as the potential cover-up by the Department of Justice to protect President Trump’s political allies,” said Rep. Lynch. “In the interest of our national security and the public’s rightful expectation of government transparency, I call on Chairman Comer to hold an Oversight hearing to review the tapes, interview Mr. Homan and the FBI agents, and determine whether Mr. Homan broke the law, whether he is even fit to hold his office and whether the Administration and DOJ are conducting a cover-up of criminal wrongdoing.”
“Mr. Homan’s reported misconduct and the abrupt termination of the DOJ investigation are deeply concerning matters that clearly fall within the oversight jurisdiction of the Committee to investigate reports of waste, fraud, and abuse in the Federal Government—especially considering that Trump Administration officials continue to vehemently deny these published accounts and have even alleged that non-partisan federal law enforcement agents sought to 'entrap one of the president’s top allies and supporters,'” wrote Rep. Lynch in the letter.
